I have often times drawn comparisons between abortion and slavery, making different points about the similarities between the people who claim abortion is a “right”, similar to how old Southern Democrats claimed slavery was a “right”, and other similar points. But I am 23 years old and only became this nuanced with regards to the topic some years ago. But in Raleigh, North Carolina during a city council meeting, a 13-year-old girl made her case for making abortion illegal and comparing it to slavery (video below). The girl began: “My name is Addison Woolsey. I strongly believe that abortion is murder. I also believe murder is wrong, so I’m here to ask you to make abortion illegal in Raleigh. Abortion should be illegal because it’s murder. The definition of murder is the killing of one human being by another without justification and acting with intended malice. When mothers choose to slaughter their innocent babies they already have fingerprints, noses; they can recognize their mom’s voice. They can hiccup and their heart is beating… On ultrasounds the baby tries to run away from the disturbing instruments that try to kill the baby. The baby’s mouth opens wide in a scream when being killed. These babies are alive. They feel being killed. It hurts them and there is nothing they can do about it. There is no way around it. Abortion is murder.” That in itself drew a few negative reactions from pro-abortion people in the crowd, which is to be expected. Even I was surprised at what the girl was saying. Again, she is only 13 years old and is already so much wiser than probably 70% of the people in that room; certainly more-so than the pro-abortion crowd. She understands, at such an early age, just how horrific abortion is and fully understands that it’s nothing short of murder. Do you want to know what I was mainly worried about when I was 13? Completing Grand Theft Auto IV. Finishing a video game was the most important thing for me at the time. I was aware that Obama was President, but I could not care less at the time. And while everyone was making a big fuss about him being the first black president, all I thought was “huh, cool, I guess. I mean, I don’t honestly care what his race is, but whatever,” and then went on with my day. Heck, even when I was 14, 15 and 16, I didn’t care all that much about politics (until around the 2012 election came around, at least). My main priorities at the time were getting enough passing grades to graduate on time and getting a good kill/death ratio in the newest Call of Duty game. That’s it, and here we have a thirteen-year-old girl who is far more intelligent than I certainly was at the time and far more nuanced. In any case, she continued: “There’s no way around it. Abortion is murder. So why is it if an infant is destroyed before birth there’s no problem but if killed after birth it’s considered a brutal murder? These babies aren’t ‘it’s’ or ‘fetuses’; they are human beings and they deserve to get the same human rights as any other person. As good ole’ Dr. Seuss said: ‘a person’s a person no matter how small.’” She then also went on to quote scripture, specifically Jeremiah 1:5: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I set you apart and appointed you a prophet to the nations.” And while obviously that verse was specific to Jeremiah, it does speak that God knows every single one of us before He formed us in our mothers’ womb. That part I liked a lot. But later came the part that had the pro-abortion people shouting at her to stop talking and overall causing a ruckus: “Abortion reminds me of slavery. Owners said that their slaves were their property and they could do whatever they wanted with them. Just how moms feel about their babies. My hope is that in a few years we’ll look back at abortion and think, ‘That was so cruel. I can’t believe we did that.’ Just how I look back at slavery. The question is, who will you be? The slave owner?... Rosa Parks? Or Abraham Lincoln? Who are you going to be? Make a choice. My choice is made. I’m here today standing up for what’s right. I’m here today speaking for those who can’t speak for themselves. Are you choosing to be like the plantation owner flogging the little black child?” Absolutely powerful stuff that hits the nail right on the head. Many of the same arguments pro-abortion people make are the same ones pro-slavery people made back in the day. “It’s my body, my choice” is awfully similar to “it’s my property to do with as I wish.” “They are not humans, they’re fetuses” is as ridiculous as “they are not humans, they are property”. And if you really want to take it one step farther, it is equally as easy to draw comparisons between abortion and the Holocaust. The slave owners at least had the decency to not try and kill what they considered their property. But pro-aborts, like the Nazis, aim to kill groups of people. Let’s not forget Margaret Sanger herself acknowledged her desire to rid the world of what she considered “weeds” and “imbeciles”: the black race. But of course, black people aren’t the only ones Planned Parenthood targets, similar to how Jews weren’t the only targets of the Nazis. Planned Parenthood also targets Hispanics such as myself. The Nazis also targeted those who were not of the Aryan race. And even those Hitler didn’t kill he still held disdain for. He thought of the Italians as lesser people to the Aryan race because they were a darker skin tone; more Mediterranean. Planned Parenthood also targets people with disabilities like Down Syndrome, autism, etc. Guess who were some of the first targets of the Nazis? Lame people; people with disabilities who were deemed to be holding back the human race. But whatever you wish to compare it to, abortion is as horrific and wrong as those two things were. Addison then continued speaking, even talking over some of the protests: “Are you choosing to be like the plantation owner flogging the little black child? Or are you going to protest even if it is going to cost you your life like Martin Luther King Jr.? Who are you going to be? If you think abortion should be illegal, would you please stand up? We need to change the law so that we can change the world. So let’s stand up and do it.” An absolutely wonderful statement to make to her City Council. And again, she is just 13 years old. She must have pretty great and smart parents for her to not only be nuanced enough about abortion but to also be brave enough to go up to speak at a podium to the City Council, knowing full-well that there are others there who disagree and not knowing how they might react, but still speaking anyway. One of the women in the pro-abortion side even started to yell at her after she finished about how she was being “inappropriate”. Odd that she finds that a thirteen-year-old comparing abortion to slavery is more “inappropriate” than the advocacy of infant slaughter. If you go back to the beginning of her statement, she clearly remarked that babies in the womb have fingerprints, noses, heartbeats, can recognize their mom’s voice and can hiccup – many characteristics of something that is ALIVE. She also remarked that the babies FEEL BEING KILLED and have no alternatives; no voice; no personal choice to make. Their entire lives are being ended by a choice they did not make and could not make. They were being eliminated in the place where they ought to feel the safest and FEEL WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THEM AS THEY ARE MURDERED! They cry out in pain when they are being killed. Comparing abortion to slavery is not inappropriate. ADVOCATING FOR THE SLAUGHTER OF CHILDREN IS! And at the end of the day, that’s exactly what is being advocated here. It’s not women’s rights; no man or woman has the right to kill another person including their unborn child. It’s not women’s liberation; no one is free by being enslaved by sin. It’s not women’s healthcare; healthcare is about helping and saving people, not killing them. It’s about people’s supposed “right” to have all the sex they want without repercussions. It’s about people’s supposed “right” to eliminate any life that is deemed inconvenient to them. It’s about women’s supposed “right” to be used and abused by men all their lives. Abortion is one of the most anti-woman things that one can advocate for. It’s one of the most anti-woman procedures one can do. The fact this little girl understands so well precisely what abortion is and how horrible it is truly warms my heart. And like her, I also hope one day we will look back at abortion with the same lenses as we do slavery, recognizing how utterly inhumane those things were. God bless her and her family.
