Michigan Sheriffs Defy Tyrannical Governor’s Insane Executive Orders, Defend Civil Liberties4/17/2020 The Wuhan virus pandemic has given some Leftist governors and mayors the opportunity to play little dictators and strip away people’s civil rights and liberties, often using the police to enforce their draconian principles. There are plenty of examples of this, such as police fining joggers who are by themselves for supposedly not adhering to stay-at-home orders (if they are alone, why does it matter?) or even going so far as to arrest a man having an outdoor picnic with his family. There is also the matter of some officers going to Easter church gatherings to give out fines to attendees who were in their cars and adhering to social distancing rules and a California pastor being given a $1,000 fine and facing possible jail time for holding Easter services and for “allegedly hiding dozens of congregants from the police,” according to The Daily Wire. When local law enforcement authorities begin to resemble the SS in search of Jews, you know you have a problem. Thankfully, not all police officers are so willing to turn their backs on the Constitution, as four sheriffs from northern Michigan counties released a statement indicating they will not enforce Gov. Whitler’s (not a typo) insane orders, calling them an “overstepping” of her authority (and by the way, the governor is facing multiple lawsuits for these draconian measures). The statement reads: “We write today to inform the public for our respective counties of our opposition to some of Governor Whitmer’s executive orders. While we understand her desire to protect the public, we question some restrictions that she has imposed as overstepping her executive authority. She has created a vague framework of emergency laws that only confuse Michigan citizens.” Instead of employing strict and unnecessary enforcement, the sheriffs said that they “will deal with every case as an individual situation and apply common sense.” “Each of us took an oath to uphold and defend the Michigan Constitution, as well as the US Constitution, and to ensure that your God given rights are not violated. We believe that we are the last line of defense in protecting your civil liberties.” “Our focus needs to be on reopening our counties and getting people back to work. We also need to be aware that this virus is deadly and that we need to continue to practice social distancing, washing of hands, wearing of masks as well as other medically recommended measures. Allowing those without paychecks back to work is imperative to the economic success and wellbeing of our community. We can do this in stages, especially those that work outside.” “Together, as a community, we will overcome this pandemic, and as Americans, we will persevere and come out stronger than before. As sheriffs of your community we want you to know we have your back and will continue to serve the people who have entrusted us with your protection.” I don’t blame them even a little for doing this. Whitler’s (yes, that’s what I’ll call her from now on) executive orders include banning retail stores from selling farming and gardening items, such as seeds, and banning paint from being sold. People can’t buy seeds or paint, but they are still allowed to buy alcohol, weed and lottery tickets. They aren’t allowed to travel between homes or even visit friends or family if it means leaving their homes. These insane and arbitrary measures have drawn much ire from Michiganders, prompting the Michigan Conservative Coalition to set up a protest called “Operation Gridlock” where thousands of protesters gathered together to honk their cars and cause gridlock. Some protesters, however, took to the state’s Capitol to protest in person as well. According to The Daily Wire: “The operation… directed protesters to stay in their cars and circle the capitol, honking their horns. Live shots on Fox News showed thousands of cars stacked up around the statehouse. Some protesters sported signs that said, ‘tyranny worse than the virus’ and ‘honk if you love liberty.’” Matt Seely of the aforementioned Michigan Conservative Coalition, said: “People are basically being told what they can and can’t buy at stores. Nothing makes sense. You can buy a bottle of liquor, but you can’t buy a gallon of paint.” It’s these arbitrary orders of deciding what stores can and can’t sell, as well as orders shutting down businesses that are subjectively deemed “non-essential”, that have drawn so much ire from people as they are entirely unconstitutional. President Trump drew criticism for making note that he has “total” power to reopen the economy. While I would argue his power isn’t “total”, it’s definitely more than people think. Yes, the states have the 10th Amendment on their side (and that’s a good thing) and can issue social distancing guidelines (to an extent; an extent these governors are really testing). What they cannot do, however, is shut down businesses arbitrarily by deeming them “non-essential” as they currently are. If they had the power to do that, Leftist cities and states would employ such powers to shut down gun stores as “non-essential” businesses. They can’t order people not to visit their friends and family and can’t order people not to go between two homes that they might own. The government does not have the authority to tell people if they can gather. It’s literally our First Amendment right to assemble and to issue these orders goes against the Constitution. I get wanting to “flatten the curve” and trying to tamper the ability for the virus to spread, but there are far better alternatives to outright COMMUNISM, such as wearing masks and washing your hands, etc. Let these changes happen naturally and socially, not legislatively or through overreaching executive orders. States cannot order people to do any of the things they are doing and obviously, states don’t have the Constitutional authority to shut down businesses all willy-nilly like that either. Governors also don’t have the Constitutional authority to restrict what retail stores are able to sell, otherwise, again, they’d be able to tell gun stores to stop selling guns. This is why it’s not an overreaction to call Whitler a “tyrant”. She very much is and is pushing the limits of her powers (not that she’s the only one doing this, but the topic of this story largely focuses on Michigan cops defying this particular governor’s commie orders). This pandemic has exposed the overly socialistic tendencies within the Left, what with so many Democrats salivating at the idea of using mail-in ballots, a system that would pretty much guarantee Democrat victories and make it far too easy for the Left to cheat. And for some Democrat governors and mayors, their socialistic tendencies have come out in the form of executive authority. The Left really can’t help themselves when they get an opportunity, any at all, to rule with as much of an iron fist as they can get away with. Thankfully, it seems there are at least some people within our law enforcement agencies willing to defend the constitution and stand up to tyranny. Here’s hoping that the next time Gov. Whitler is on the ballot in an election, she gets her rear end kicked out of office, as well as the other Stalin-wannabes currently holding executive power within states and enforcing these draconian measures. Isaiah 10:1-2 “Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees, and the writers who keep writing oppression, to turn aside the needy from justice and to rob the poor of my people of their right, that widows may be their spoil, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!”
