In this increasingly polarized society, there are few things with which all generations can agree. Seemingly, one of those things, interestingly enough, is that Hasbro dropped the ball in announcing they would be dropping the “Mr.” from the Potato Head line in order to be more “gender-neutral” and disagreeing with this decision. According to a recent Morning Consult poll of 2,200 adults, so not a small sample size, 52% of those surveyed disapproved of the recent move. Only 20% approved of it and 28% stated they had no opinion on this. This is particularly interesting because of the demographic make-up which showed all generations they disagreed with the move. You see, all generations presently alive – Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z – agreed that they did not like this change by Hasbro. To different degrees, of course, but disagreement was still a commonality among all generations. 57% of Boomers, 59% of Gen X, 45% of Millennials and 40% of Gen Z disapproved of the name change, which again, is rather surprising. Even Morning Consult was rather surprised, saying: “Even among younger consumers – who tend to be more accepting of gender fluidity and conscious of brand values in general – opinions on Potato Head’s name change were more negative than positive…” However, before we go around celebrating this, I have the feeling that this disapproval of the name change has more to do with sentimentality over a children’s toy than the clear attempt at a big corporation to further delve into anti-God and anti-science baloney. I am among the youngest of Millennials, bordering on Gen Z, and I would be fairly miffed if a beloved child’s toy of mine, which even had a character in a beloved children’s movie franchise, “Toy Story”, were to receive a name change for any reason, let alone this one. At the same time, younger generations also are a little less in tune with tradition and sentimentalities of the past, in part because they are indoctrinated to view anything that happened in the history of this country as a negative thing (unless it is a good thing for progressives), so I cannot say that that is the biggest reason for the disapproval of the name change. Particularly since 33% of Democrats approved of the name change, while 33% of Democrats also disapproved (the other 34% was undecided). That was the only demographic in the survey that came that close to being positive for the name change, and it was a virtual tie. Unsurprisingly, 76% of Republicans disapproved of the name change, and 51% of Independents did as well. What is also perhaps not particularly surprising is that those making $50k or less disapproved at 50% and only approved at 16%, while those making between $50k and $100k disapproved by 55% and approved by 21%, and finally, those making $100k or more disapproved by 51% and approved by 27%. I say that is not particularly surprising because it is usually the elites who approve of these idiotic changes that help deteriorate society. While most still disapproved across all income levels, it was most approved by those who tend to be a little wealthier than others. Again, it’s usually the elites who approve of this crap because they largely do not have to actually face the consequences of these changes. As a recent example, the president of a California teachers union who is advocating for prolonged school closures was recently caught on video dropping off his daughter at an in-person, private school. Whatever arguments the guy was making about how schools are “dangerous” for children (they are, but ideologically, not physically), he sure doesn’t seem to care about whatever danger his daughter might face by going to school in person. His daughter doesn’t have to face the consequences of his rhetoric and agenda, which is why he is okay with pushing it. It’s the same hypocritical act committed by many Leftists throughout the last year, who fearmongered people about how deadly and dangerous the Chinese coronavirus is and how they have to make certain sacrifices for their loved ones and their country, while not making the same sacrifices whatsoever and getting to either go to dinner with a bunch of people (and not having to wear masks), or having the privilege to force a hair stylist to open their doors just for them and them alone, or getting to go on vacation in Mexico while pushing for people to not go beyond a certain mile radius of their homes. So the elites don’t care about stuff like this, or even appear to be in favor of it to appear “progressive” for their donors, and they don’t have to face the consequences of this crap. Well, not immediately, anyway. But that so many people disagree with the idiotic name change is quite nice to see. Now, I should also point out that Hasbro clarified that they were not trying to get rid of their Mr. Potato Head line, they were just changing it to “Potato Head”. Which would be fine (they do have a Mrs. Potato Head) if Hasbro’s Chief Communications Officer Rich Ferraro hadn’t told Morning Consult: “Hasbro’s decision to introduce Potato Head as a gender-neutral toy is the latest move in a larger movement towards greater diversity and inclusion in toys and media aimed at kids. By offering a toy that exists outside of the binary of male and female, Hasbro is helping kids to simply see toys as toys, which encourages them to be their authentic selves outside of the pressures of traditional gender norms.” Just a bunch of corporate woke speak that attempts to solve a problem that doesn’t exist. What kid sees a Mr. Potato Head and sees it as anything other than a toy (at least kids old enough to recognize that it’s not food)? Hasbro doesn’t need to help kids to “simply see toys as toys” because kids are not that moronic as to think that something that is clearly a toy is not a toy. Sure, there are things that kids play with which are not toys, such as utensils, food, etc. but a parent guides their child to play with actual toys that will not harm them. Kids don’t see a toy and see something else entirely (or at least, they do not see a Mr. Potato Head and think it’s a tool of the patriarchy to crush women. Only moronic adults do that). And as far as inclusion goes, when they introduced the Mrs. Potato Head toy, they changed the line from just “Mr. Potato Head” to “Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head”. It was already inclusive, so why the change? And don’t tell me it was to include transgenders too, because even transgenders use those pronouns to identify themselves. A transgender woman will ask people to call him “her” and “Ms.”, flipping to the female pronouns as opposed to using the male ones. So why would taking the “Mr.” out of the line of toys be inclusive for transgenders, who choose to use the opposite pronouns anyway? Again, this is only to help deteriorate society because these people are not going to face the consequences of their putrid actions. But unlike other idiotic changes made for the same reasons which garnered at least some support from the Left, this one in particular seems to have backfired on the people trying to kiss the mob’s butt. Even Democrats were split among approval and disapproval, while everyone else was very against this change. You don’t see this very often, but it is good to see it when it does. I just wish it would happen more often. Ephesians 6:14 “Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness…”
