Hong Kong: “Donald Trump Has Played This Brilliantly” Says Mark Steyn. But It’s Bigger Than That.12/3/2019 Mark Steyn is one of my favorite political analysts – head to head with Rush Limbaugh. And last week he was on Fox & Friends talking about Hong Kong pro-democracy activists praising President Trump at a rally on Thanksgiving Day. Just to add some context, President Trump signed two pro-Hong Kong protester bills into law, which caused the activists to cheer and thank America for taking a stand. During Mark Steyn’s appearance on Fox & Friends he said: “I think, strategically, from America’s point of view, Donald Trump has played this brilliantly. And that’s what they appreciate. … Really, the only practical thing that has been done for them is by President Trump, who has actually used the trade deal and this as a way of saying this is the last chance to stop China before it becomes the dominant economic power.” He added, “If the people’s republic gets away with crushing Hong Kong, then that basically says they can’t be stopped, they’re going to be the dominant superpower of the 21st century. And the president is the first president in a generation who actually doesn’t think the rise of China, and in fact the supplanting of America by China, he’s the first American president in a generation who doesn’t think that’s a good thing.” I completely agree with Mark – the rise of China is the doom of freedom. China is a Communist country led by a dictator who is ready to crush not just Hong Kong, but also Taiwan, and become the most powerful leader in the world. He is not a big fan of freedom, to put it mildly, and on the contrary, like all dictators, once they have no restraints, he will crush any opposing power. China has to be stopped. When people think about the most evil leaders the world has produced, usually these names come to mind: Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Nero, Mao Zedong and Benito Mussolini. What do all of these leaders have in common? They all had absolute power – they had nobody to put restrains around them. No checks and balances, no real opposition – they could do pretty much anything they wanted to do. And so they did – including massacre people. Some of these leaders died in office, never facing justice, at least here on Earth. And some had to be stopped by force. Neither option to stop these people is good for the world. If China were to become the dominant power in the world, make no mistake, they would massacre more people than they have already. China is not a Republic – its people have no say as to what policies its leadership implements. Xi Jinping has no constituents – just subjects whose lives have no value and whom he uses for his own purposes. But, you see, what Trump is doing in stopping China from becoming the leading global power, while critical for our national security and the safety of the world, is actually bigger than that. It’s bigger than political, economic or military superiority. The Chinese people don’t have freedoms – they’re allowed to do whatever the Chinese government allows them to do. They cannot have more kids than the government allows them to do. They cannot worship as they please. Muslims, Christians, Jews and all religious people are systematically persecuted. There is no freedom of the press. There is no freedom of speech. And while all of these things are critical for the development of a free society, hardly are any of these things the most critical thing to consider for us as people. What do I mean by this? China is a godless nation. It doesn’t just eliminate people and freedoms because they think it’s the best way for its leadership to keep everyone in check. It does so because its leaders are godless – they don’t realize that anything they do here on Earth, ultimately they’ll have to give an account for to God Almighty Himself. If they understood that nothing they do will be overlooked by God, they wouldn’t be doing any of this. The main reason America has become such a great country is because most of our leaders, historically, have understood that America is one nation under God. And if we’re one nation under God, we respond to God. And if we respond to God, then there are certain inalienable rights that no government can take away: Life, Freedom and the Pursuit of Happiness. Our rights come from God, because if rights came from government, we wouldn't have any rights. In fact, it's when nations remove God from their thinking that they get the Hitlers, Mussolinis and Xi Jinpings of the world. China doesn’t think there is a God – so the Chinese people have no right to life, for example. Or freedom. Or pursuit of happiness. Since they don’t think there is a God, the Chinese leaders do pretty much whatever they feel like doing - including killing their own people. Our system is based on the principle that God is watching us 24/7. Coram Deo - we live in the presence of, under the authority of and to the honor and glory of God. And as such, there are things we know we shouldn’t do. I believe America, to the extent that she continues to understand God will judge us all, will continue to prosper. Our prosperity and superiority as a nation are the direct result of our understanding of the principle that we’re one nation under God. America was founded on Christian principles and as long as we honor God, as a nation and individually, success is guaranteed. Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.“
