It’s not very often that we see blue-on-blue attacks (I’m willing to believe they happen far more often than being reported, and this is without counting Manchin’s resistance to Schumer and Sinema being harassed by Leftists), so it’s always quite a joyous sight to see when they do happen. This time, it’s for a far less significant matter: the race for the next governor of New York in 2022. In all certainty, whoever ends up being the Democrat candidate will end up stealing the election, and NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio wants to be the Democrat’s thief (insert New York crime rate joke here). However, it looks as though he will have trouble getting that spot, as people in his own Democrat Party are not only unconvinced that he would be in any way a good option, but even go so far as to mock the prospect. Rich Schaffer, chairman of Suffolk County’s Democrat committee told the NYT that “Osama bin Laden is probably more popular in Suffolk County than Bill de Blasio. De Blasio, I would say, would have zero support if not negative out here.” Would be a bit more impactful had it been from a committee chairman from New York county, the county that Manhattan is from, but still quite the scolding comment to make that the guy officially responsible for the deaths of 3,000 people and destruction of what used to be the city’s most iconic structures would be more popular anywhere in New York than the mayor of NYC. Hyperbole, of course, but it's quite the statement to make. Perhaps a rather offensive one, all things considered, but still. However, he’s not the only Democrat to be opposed to de Blasio. Most notably, former representative and tax-evader Charles Rangel told the NYT that he didn’t want to “get involved in anything that would be negative” but admitted that he couldn’t think of “anything positive” to say about a potential de Blasio gubernatorial bid. When even the guy found guilty of 11 ethics charges doesn’t think you’d be a good governor, that says something. The Times also reported that de Blasio is privately telling people that he plans to run for NY governor, likely to try and see how much such a prospect would garner support: “Mr. de Blasio, who has been a polarizing figure during his two terms in office, has also sounded our trusted former aides about their interests in working on a potential campaign, according to two people who are familiar with those contacts, and has made other overtures to labor leaders about a possible bid. His longtime pollster conducted a private survey to assess Mr. de Blasio’s appeal beyond New York City.” And back in September, Politico reported that de Blasio had “phoned several labor leaders in recent days to gauge support.” But, again, he isn’t exactly getting a whole lot of support from New York Democrats. Even NYC’s DOI recently released a report accusing the mayor of using NYPD security detail like personal servants for himself and his family. The DOI commissioner Margaret Garnett said in a statement following the report: “Protecting the mayor and his family is a serious and significant job that should be guided by best practices, formalized procedures, and an understanding that security details are not personal assistants in a dignitary’s daily life but provide essential protection.” De Blasio responded to this, claiming that there were “inconsistencies and inaccuracies” throughout the report, and just made the excuse that his “first responsibility was as a father and as a husband.” Is that what the guy was thinking when his own daughter participated in the George Floyd riots in NYC and got arrested for it? In any case, it’s really quite telling when even members of his own Democrat Party in NEW YORK are at best not saying anything about it, like Rangel, and at worst are making jokes at his expense, like claiming that Osama bin Laden would be a more popular figure in New York politics than the mayor. Whether he ends up running and winning the nomination is a different matter entirely (though I’d be willing to bet the NY Democrat Party would Bernie him out of the nomination). But his prospects so far do not appear good, suffice to say. Either way, I just hope that the corruption, theft and lies in New York will be utterly uncovered and made known to every American so that the Democrats can’t steal further elections. Ephesians 6:11 “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”
