The latest news have been about the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). How Trump has changed his mind about pulling from the Agreement with Canada and Mexico. But here’s the thing, the Left, as always, tries to spin things to make it look as though Trump is flip-flopping on this issue or simply has no idea what he’s doing or why he would pull out (usually both). While checking Facebook, I saw under the “Trending” section that Trump was “backtracking” on his promise to pull from NAFTA. And the media made it very clear that, as the 100th day mark of Trump’s presidency hit this past weekend, he's been frantically trying to check off promises he had made during the campaign trail to his supporters. The Left believes that Trump is a liar. And they also believe that he can be rather easily persuaded. They have already attempted to make it look as though Trump has broken multiple promises made during the campaign during his first 100 days in office and that he’s trying to make amends for that with NAFTA. While the Left thinks Trump is “backtracking” or caving in somehow, to us Trump supporters, we know and see clearly what is happening: negotiation tactics. Trump has made it clear that Canada’s PM Justin Trudeau and Mexico’s President Enrique Pena Nieto both reached out to HIM for this deal to remain in place. According to Trump, both leaders asked if renegotiations were possible, to which he agreed, making sure that the U.S. gets a fair deal out of the agreement. The White House also stated that the phone conversations with the foreign leaders were “pleasant and productive.” But while the Left thinks Trump is backtracking or maybe even changing his mind somewhat on NAFTA, we know that he was negotiating the agreement before he was even president, by using a sort of scare tactic. He threatened to leave NAFTA, knowing full well how unfair the deal is to the U.S., and this caused a reaction from the other two countries involved. Neither Canada nor Mexico want the U.S. to pull out of the deal, since it could mean serious economic danger to both nations. In fact, Mexico’s peso plummeted in trading when they found out the White House was drafting an executive order to withdraw the U.S. from NAFTA. All nations’ economies are reactionary to news. The Dow Jones skyrocketed the day after the election simply due to the fact that Trump won, so it’s not a surprise to me that, when a country receives bad news that affect them economically, their economy takes a negative turn. Mexico certainly didn’t want the U.S. to pull out of the agreement, and clearly, neither did Canada. If Trump threatens to leave NAFTA, that gets the foreign leaders on the phone. That’s the negotiation tactic that he had been using since the campaign. But the Left will either ignore that or simply be unaware of it. They certainly don’t think Trump’s smart enough to plan that far ahead. Even though he’s a master negotiator and deal maker, the Left thinks he’s too dumb to have done something like that on purpose. So while people like me point out the tactic, they may argue that he’s too stupid to do that. Well, at least it might get them thinking about it if I (or someone more popular) point it out and it doesn’t flat out go over the Left’s head. Regardless of what happens with the agreement in the end, I’m glad we at least have a president that is willing to make sure the U.S. gets a fair deal when dealing with other nations. With Obama, the U.S. only saw itself getting taken advantage of, particularly with TPP, but now, with Trump, we see that the U.S. will no longer receive the short end of the stick. Truly, I say, we must be grateful that someone the likes of Obama is gone from the highest office in the land and that someone the likes of Trump is in it. James 1:17 “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
